Grade 3 PHONICS is a systematic, comprehensive, and coherent phonics program that meets the guidelines of scientific research and utilizes the methods of best practice.  

Grade 3 PHONICS links the content and methodology of WORKSHOP WAY’s philosophy and psychology.  The philosophy and psychology of WORKSHOP WAY’S® phonics program respects differences in children’s timing and way of learning.  While the pace of the lessons is steady, the timing for students to learn is flexible as students participate in lessons with their knowledge and their way of knowing.  

The content of Grade 3 PHONICS is based on literacy standards (phonemic awareness, phonics, word recognition, writing, and communication) and promotes the development of high levels of conscious awareness in students. The instructional techniques focus on freeing students from fear and promoting a classroom environment of enthusiastic involvement. The goal of instruction is to facilitate active involvement in each lesson by 100% of the students according to their timing and way. 

Grade 3 LESSONS for THINKING is used to close out the Phonics lesson and are designed to give all students an opportunity to think of a way to do a worksheet without teachers telling them what to do.  The experience satisfies a basic, human need – to be involved in work without adult interference.

These Grade 3 materials are downloaded and saved to your computer in three files for the purchaser to print: 1. Cover for the lesson plan book, 2. the pages of the book; 3. Grade 2 LESSONS for THINKING.

Printing of files: 

  • The Grade 3 Phonics lesson plans can be printed on plain paper with the cover on card stock and either spiral bound or three-hole punched.  It can also be read as a PDF file.
  • Grade 1 LESSONS for THINKING – print on plain copy paper – one copy per student

Grade 3 Phonics contains 160 scripted lessons for systematic daily phonics instruction. Each lesson follows WORKSHOP WAY’S unique Five Activity Lesson plan. It gives teachers the means to create a process in every lesson so that human growth is nourished and skills are practiced.

  • Note: Grade 3 Phonics should be used with Grades 1-3 Phonics Cards.  Also recommended is the set of Picture Cards.  Both items are in the Essential Phonics Bundle for Grade 1 or sold separately. 

The Complete Phonics Bundle contains all products for the teaching of phonics:rhyme flip books, posters to support the lessons, opposite cards, window cards for vowel practice, labels to organize all materials for the year, as well as the Picture Cards and Phonics Cards and a grade level lesson plan book.

The Essential Phonics Bundle contains the grade Phonics Lesson plan book, the grade level Lessons for Thinking, the 190 pre-cut Phonics Flash Cards and the 503 Picture Cards.

If the teacher changes grade levels between grades 1-3 all that needs to be purchased is the new grade level lesson plan book.
